Create, change and delete an FTP account Print

  • FTP, FTP-Konto, cPanel
  • 0

Your cPanel credentials already give you FTP access to the entire account. For web designers or staff, you can create additional FTP accounts that can only access a specific folder.

Create an FTP account

  1. Log in at https://cpanel.hoston.ch.
  2. In the Files section, click FTP Accounts.
  3. Under Add FTP Account, fill in:
    • Log In: username without spaces, e.g. webdesign (the full name is then webdesign@yourdomain.ch)
    • Password: a strong password
    • Directory: the folder the account can access, e.g. public_html/shop
    • Quota: maximum disk space or Unlimited
  4. Click Create FTP Account.

Change password or quota

  1. Find the account in the FTP Accounts list.
  2. Click Change Password or Change Quota, enter the new value and confirm.

The password of the main FTP account is the cPanel password and is changed there.

Delete an FTP account

  1. Click Delete next to the account in the list.
  2. Confirm with Delete.

Caution: Do not choose Delete User and Files if you want to keep the files in the folder – otherwise all data in that directory is permanently deleted as well.
