To connect with an FTP client such as FileZilla, WinSCP or Cyberduck, you need the details below. For security reasons, always use an encrypted connection (FTPS).
Connection details
- Server / host:
ftp.yourdomain.ch - Protocol: FTP with explicit TLS encryption (FTPS, "Explicit FTP over TLS")
- Port: 21
- Username: your cPanel username for the main account; for additional FTP accounts the full name, e.g.
webdesign@yourdomain.ch - Password: your cPanel password or the password of the FTP account
- Transfer mode: passive
The credentials of the main account are in your welcome e-mail. Additional accounts are managed in cPanel under Files > FTP Accounts.
Common problems
- Connection fails or stops while listing directories: Set your FTP client to passive mode and check whether a firewall is blocking the connection.
- Certificate warning on first connection: Check that the certificate belongs to your domain or the server, then accept it.
- Login rejected: For additional accounts, use the full username including
@yourdomain.ch. After several failed attempts your IP address may be blocked temporarily; wait a few minutes in that case. - Domain does not point to hoston.ch yet: Until then, use the File Manager in cPanel or ask our support team for the server name.
