Manage categories in WordPress Print

Categories group your posts by topic. You manage them in the dashboard under Posts > Categories.

Add a category

1. Open Posts > Categories.
2. Under Add New Category, enter a Name.
3. Optional: Slug (part of the URL), Parent Category (for subcategories) and Description.
4. Click Add New Category.

Rename "Uncategorized"

The default category "Uncategorized" cannot be deleted, but it can be renamed:

1. Hover over the category and click Quick Edit.
2. Change the name and slug and click Update Category.

Alternatively, set a different default category under Settings > Writing.

Delete a category

1. Hover over the category and click Delete.
2. Confirm with OK.

Note: Posts are not deleted. Posts left without a category are assigned to the default category.
