Plugins add extra features to WordPress. You manage them in the dashboard under Plugins.

Install a plugin from the directory

  1. Go to Plugins > Add New Plugin.
  2. Search for the plugin (name or keyword).
  3. Click Install Now and then Activate.

Upload a plugin as a ZIP file

  1. Under Plugins > Add New Plugin, click Upload Plugin.
  2. Choose the ZIP file, click Install Now and then Activate Plugin.

Update plugins

Under Plugins > Installed Plugins, an update now link appears when an update is available. With Enable auto-updates, WordPress keeps the plugin up to date on its own.

Force a reinstall

If a plugin stops working properly, you can reinstall it without losing its settings: download the current ZIP file of the plugin and upload it via Upload Plugin as above. WordPress detects the existing plugin and offers Replace current with uploaded.

Deactivate and delete a plugin

  1. Under Installed Plugins, click Deactivate below the plugin.
  2. Then click Delete and confirm.

Tip: Only install plugins you really need, and create a backup before major changes.
