Here is how to add your mailbox to the Mail app on your Mac as an IMAP account.

  1. Open Mail and in the menu bar choose Mail > Add Account.
  2. Select Other Mail Account and click Continue.
  3. Enter your name, full e-mail address and password and click Sign In.
  4. If the settings are not detected automatically, choose account type IMAP and enter the Incoming Mail Server, Outgoing Mail Server and the full e-mail address as username.
  5. Click Sign In and choose the apps that should use the account.
  6. Under Mail > Settings > Accounts > Server Settings, check that the ports and Use TLS/SSL are set correctly.

Which values apply depends on whether your mailbox belongs to a web hosting plan (cPanel) or to an e-mail package:

Web hosting mailbox (cPanel)

  • Incoming (IMAP): mail.yourdomain.ch, port 993, SSL/TLS
  • Alternatively POP3: mail.yourdomain.ch, port 995, SSL/TLS
  • Outgoing (SMTP): mail.yourdomain.ch, port 465 SSL/TLS or 587 STARTTLS
  • Username: full e-mail address; enable SMTP authentication (same credentials)

E-mail package (E-Mail Postfach / E-Mail Business)

  • Incoming (IMAP): mail.hoston.ch, port 993, SSL/TLS
  • Outgoing (SMTP): mail.hoston.ch, port 465 SSL/TLS or 587 STARTTLS
  • Username: full e-mail address; enable SMTP authentication
