cPanel includes the Apache SpamAssassin spam filter. It scores incoming e-mail and marks suspicious messages as spam.
Enable the spam filter
- Log in to cPanel and in the Email section click Spam Filters.
- Enable Process New Emails and Mark them as Spam.
- Optional: enable Move New Spam to a Separate Folder (Spam Box). Spam then goes to the "spam" folder instead of the inbox.
- Optional: Automatically Delete New Spam (Auto-Delete) deletes spam above a given score. Use this option with care.
Sensitivity and lists
- Spam Threshold Score: the lower the value, the stricter the filter (default 5).
- Whitelist (Emails Never Marked as Spam): senders that should never be treated as spam, e.g.
*@partner.ch. - Blacklist (Emails Always Marked as Spam): senders that are always marked as spam.
Note: Check the spam folder in webmail regularly, especially during the first weeks. Another option is BoxTrapper: unknown senders must reply to a verification e-mail, which can delay wanted messages.
