A purchased SSL certificate requires a Certificate Signing Request (CSR). cPanel automatically creates the matching private key and stores it on the server.

Create a CSR

  1. Log in to cPanel at https://cpanel.hoston.ch.
  2. In the Security section, click SSL/TLS.
  3. Under Certificate Signing Requests (CSR), click Generate, view, or delete SSL certificate signing requests.
  4. For Key, choose "Generate a new 2,048-bit RSA key" (or a stronger key).
  5. Under Domains, enter the domain name, e.g. yourdomain.ch and www.yourdomain.ch; for a wildcard certificate, *.yourdomain.ch.
  6. Fill in City, State (canton), Country (CH), Company and Email. For OV/EV, the company details must match the commercial register exactly.
  7. Click Generate and copy the entire text including -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE REQUEST----- and -----END CERTIFICATE REQUEST-----.

View a CSR again

  1. Open SSL/TLS > Certificate Signing Requests (CSR).
  2. In the Certificate Signing Requests on Server list, click Edit next to the CSR to display its text.

Delete a CSR

  1. In the same list, click Delete next to the CSR and confirm.

Note: do not delete the private key (under Private Keys) as long as the related certificate is in use.
