Create and edit files and folders in the File Manager Print

In the cPanel File Manager you can create new folders and files and edit existing files directly in your browser.

Create a folder or file

1. Log in at https://cpanel.hoston.ch and open Files > File Manager.
2. Go to the directory you want, for example public_html.
3. Click + Folder (new folder) or + File (new file).
4. Enter the name, such as images or info.txt.
5. Confirm with Create New Folder or Create New File.

Edit a file

1. Right-click the file and choose Edit.
2. Confirm the character encoding dialog with Edit (keep UTF-8).
3. Make your changes in the editor.
4. Click Save Changes at the top right and close the editor.

Other actions

• Rename: rename a file or folder
• Copy / Move: copy or move
• Permissions: change access rights (usually 644 for files, 755 for folders)
• Delete: delete (goes to the trash first, if enabled)

Tip: Before editing important files, make a backup copy with Copy.
