The .htaccess file controls redirects, URL rewriting and access rules for your website, among other things. Because its name starts with a dot, it is hidden in the File Manager by default.
- Log in at https://cpanel.hoston.ch and open Files > File Manager.
- Click Settings at the top right.
- Enable Show Hidden Files (dotfiles) and click Save.
- Open the
public_htmlfolder (or the directory of your addon domain). - Right-click
.htaccessand choose Edit. If the file does not exist yet, create it with + File and the name.htaccess. - Make your changes and click Save Changes.
- Open your website and check that everything works as expected.
Important: A typo in .htaccess can cause a 500 error. Make a copy first with Copy (e.g. .htaccess.bak) so you can quickly restore the old version if needed. WordPress and other applications write their own rules to this file – do not edit blocks between # BEGIN and # END by hand.
